My name is Alex Hardman. I am a Educational Technologist/ Web Developer working for a UK University. I worked as a systems analyst/ programmer for a good number of years and after some travelling I trained as an ICT teacher. I’ve worked in my current role since the beginning of 2007.

My role involves supporting the design and delivery of Researcher Skills Training from postgraduate through to research leader. Recent examples of the type of projects I work on include:

  • The project leadership and the co-authoring of a Research Methods course which will be delivered online to postgraduate students in the faculty.
  • Collaborating on the design and delivery of the ‘New Academics Programme‘ – which looks at training Research leaders who are new to the faculty
  • Supervising MRes Students in their practical projects as part of an Education MA at Manchester.
  • Leading workshops in areas including: “Technology Enhanced Training”, “Social Networking in Research” and “Blogging and Social Networking for Distance Learners”.
  • Collaborating on regional workshops including “Technology for Researchers in Education”
  • Research Connect” – Leading a bid, developing the concept for, and delivering a a social networking platform to support researcher’s acitivity across the University
  • Developing an online information and course booking portal that to manage their course booking data, news delivery, and staff/ student communication.
  • Designing and implementing of a suite of online researcher training resources (“Research Skills Online“), including Acamdic Writing and Making a Scientific Presentation
  • Providing consultation to the University; advising on their online researcher support strategy.
